Hanwei Basket Hilt Backsword by Paul Chen
Our Hanwei Basket Hilt Backsword by Paul Chen is replicated from an original, the blade is forged in high carbon steel. The grip is covered with wire wrapped rayskin and the basket liner is a fabric-covered leather.

Early highland swords almost invariably carried the double edged broadsword  blade, but by the time of the Battle of Culloden (1746) the single edged “backsword” was at least equal in popularity. Our Basket Hilt Backsword, replicated from an original in the collection of the Royal Armouries in England that dates from about 1760, has an unusual basket with twin engraved “horned beastie” plaques and a blade with twin fullers running most of its length.

The blade is German in origin, but the hilt and blade are contemporary. The hilt is crafted in stainless steel, to minimize maintenance, while the blade is forged in high carbon steel. The grip is covered with wire wrapped genuine rayskin and the basket liner, like the original, is crafted in fabric covered leather. The scabbard is leather covered. Our Basket Hilt Backsword is a Functional and Battle Ready Scottish Sword.

Hanwei Basket Hilt Broadsword by Paul Chen
Although Hanwei Basket Hilt Broadsword by Paul Chen appeared throughout Britain from the mid-sixteenth century on, their association with the seventeenth and eighteenth century Scottish highlander has become legendary. Early highland swords almost invariably carried the double-edged ''broadsword'' blade but by the time of the Battle of Culloden (1746) the single-edged ''backsword'' was at least equal in popularity. Paul Chen Scottish Basket Hilt Broadsword is replicated from period pieces in the collection of the Royal Armouries in England. Features a sharpened carbon steel blade, fully tempered and battle ready. The steel basket guard is a typical Glasgow-style hilt from the mid-18th century lined in soft cloth. The grip is wood covered in ray skin and wire wrapped. Includes a wood scabbard with black leather wrap and steel accents. Made by Hanwei.
